Although not named "Telecaster" until the summer of 1951, this venerable music maker was the first production solid body electric guitar. Introduced early in 1950 as the one and two pickup "Esquire" guitars, the dual pickup version was soon renamed the "Broadcaster". Under threat of lawsuit from the Gretsch Music company, due to their trademarked "Broadkaster" drum set, Fender began clipping the "Broadcaster" name off of their existing supply of headstock decals. (These clipped decal guitars are nicknamed "Nocaster"). The "Telecaster" name came into use once the old decal supply had been used up and new decals printed. This model of electric guitar has been used on countless Country, Blues, Rock and even Jazz recordings.
